The Republic of Yemen and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have long-standing historical relations dating back to the seventeenth century, and were about the coffee trade.
In the early 1970s diplomatic relations were established between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and North and South Yemen. The relations were at that time at the level of a non-resident ambassador.
With the establishment of the Yemeni Unity on 22 May 1990, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Rubai was the first Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Since then, the Yemeni Embassy in The Hague has been working to consolidate the bilateral relations between the two countries at various diplomatic, economic and humanitarian levels, In addition, the Consular Section at the Embassy performs all consular functions works.
